Camping Font de Sis. El Palomar.  17th to 21st February

The siteFor the Spanish Group this was a busy rally, 22 vans attended, 12 of these were visitors from the UK. It was the 1st time we had used this campsite, it in a small village in a rural area where they are probably not used to so many tourists together but we were made to feel very welcome

The Hosts were Mac and Maggie Morris who actually live just outside the village; they were helped by Tony and Doreen Mills who were the co-hosts

The rally officially started at 4pm on Monday and was opened by Mac Morris the host and rally officer. We were very lucky as the sun was shining and it was well over 20 degrees which is brilliant for February. As usual the hosts had laid on an excellent buffet with lots of wine and beer. As we had a lot of visitors it was a good time to get to know about our friends from the UK groups and share experiences with them.  One of the visitors made a Baileys, cream and malteser sweet to share; I had to mention it as it was out of this world. Thank you Lynda. We stayed in the rally area until the sun went down around 7.30 when it started to get cooler; at this point we retired to our vans

The weather on Tuesday was disappointing; it drizzled for most of the day. Nothing had been planned but our hosts drove some ralliers to the local market, some wandered into the village and some stayed in their vans and went stir crazy, we’re not used to rain

Wednesday was a dull start but it was dry so the planned petanque completion went ahead at 11am.  It was a mammoth competition but at 1pm the winners, Colin Heather and Candy Hales won the final, well done. The sun came out in the afternoon and some ralliers went to explore the walks around the campsites to exercise their dogs, some went to explore the village and have lunch and other just rested in the sun. A lovely chill out afternoon.  Wednesday evening was quiz and games night in the village town hall, the Mayor had kindly given us permission to use a room there for the evening. He also gave every van a gift of an apron and a cloth shopping bad which was modelled by some of the members (see photo in this months gallery) The quiz was won by the “old age travellers” Tony and Doreen Mills, Margaret Rivers and Peter Steenhuis.

On Thursday we had the rally meal at a local restaurant in the village, the hosts had problems finding a local restaurant that could cater for almost 40 people, most found it too daunting as they were not used to such large numbers. We went to restaurant Chris’s where we had 2 courses and loads of wine for 9.50 Euros, the staff did a brilliant job and really stepped up to the mark

All too soon it was Friday, coffee morning and prize giving. The picture quiz was a joint win by 2 teams, The JR’s (Jack Russell’s) Lou and John Hanson and Tam and Jenny Edmondson. The other team was the Wasters, Colin and Ingrid Spencer and Mike and Sue Garfield. Lots of goodbyes until next time.
